Is coffee healthy?

Health and Safety

Research conducted on coffee has concluded that is overall healthy, confirming what many have believed since coffee began being consumed.

Coffee has been drunken by people for at for over a thousand years. Coffee was discovered by an Arab in the ninth century in the Ethiopian highlands. The person discovered it when he noticed that his goats became “more lively” after eating berries from the coffea plant. He took the coffea plant back to Arabia (Yemen now) with him where it was distributed throughout the Middle East.
Coffee was first used for religious reasons. Muslims made wine from the pulp of the coffee berries. This beverage was called as qishr (it’s called kisher now ) and it was used as a wine substitute in religious ceremonies. It’s unclear, as to why a wine substitute would be necessary for a religion that condones alcohol altogether, but it can probably traced to an old Muslim legend.

The old Muslim legend alleges that the archangel Gabriel offered a cup of coffee to the prophet Mohamed , who was ill. Coffee not only made him recover but it gave him enough energy to defeat 40 horsemen and sleep with 40 women. Unfortunately, modern doctors have found no evidence whatsoever for coffee’s strength and libido enhancing powers that are presented in this story.

However, since coffee is one of the most studied substances on the planet, numerous studies have illuminated its effects.

In addition to coffee’s known effect on stimulating the central nervous system, coffee also;
*Increases cognitive performance, especially in elderly people.
*Speeds up the breathing process and metabolism,
*Helps relieve some symptom of asthma
*Helps relieve some migraines when used with painkillers and other migraine medication
*helps to remove ‘cholesterol plaque’ –the substance that clogs arteries.
* Contains Vitamins that include calcium, phosphorus, iron and many other substances that are necessary for the human body.
*Coffee prevents dental caries(cavities ). The tannins in coffee interfere with bacteria’s
ability to access sugar for food. The downside to this, is that coffee stains the teeth.

Coffee can be taken during pregnancy in light moderation. There is some concern that it can cause iron deficiency in the infant if the mother drinks too much of it.

Contrary to popular belief, coffee doesn’t raise the blood pressure, even in those with heart disease. Coffee shouldn’t be taken along with tobacco and alcohol because together they can cause higher cholesterol levels in the blood.

If you drink coffee, smoke, drink liquor and don’t exercise, you’re likely to develop heart disease.
Using coffee filters offsets the small increase in body cholesterol caused by coffee by trapping the two substances that cause a slight increase in cholesterol, cafestol and kahweol, from the coffee.

Like with most things, an excessive amount of coffee will be fatal. Experts put that amount at around 100 cups of coffee in a twenty four hour period.

Don’t fall for the “golden beans” hype.

About Espresso

Preparing coffee or espresso from “golden beans” a nickname for expensive blends won’t , ensure a high quality of coffee.
It’s easy to believe that golden beans make good coffee when you generally don’t know that much about coffee and when you’re hit over to forehead with the message since you’ve been born that expensive=quality. I know you know that isn’t always the case when it comes to things that you buy. Money doesn’t make up for expertise and that is certainly the case when we’re talking about coffee.

The quality of coffee depends on two major factors. The first factor to consider is no surprise; the coffee beans used. It’s important to know what coffee beans that are used in fresh blends. In fact, there are many kinds of blends. Each one of them has a unique taste and is prepared differently. There are people, mostly in Italy, who make a living preparing different kinds of coffees. They’re called baristas. Baristas employ a considerable amount of knowledge and skill to their craft. You don’t have to know everything a barista knows to make constantly good coffee. You will try different beans and blends. You’ll most likely settle on a specific kind of coffee bean or a blend that you like more than others. Learn how that blend is prepared and you will make that coffee as good as a barista, I promise.
The second factor to consider is not so obvious; The type and condition of your espresso or coffee maker.
People tend to miss this. Just like any tool, it needs to be maintained. It’s key that espresso and coffee makers are taken care of, if you want consistency to the taste of your coffee. If you start to notice that after a while that the taste of your coffee has changed, don’t blame the machine. Don’t even blame your coffee bean supplier.
Ask yourself if you’ve been cleaning the parts of your machine correctly. Chances are you, probably haven’t been cleaning your coffee or espresso machine’s parts so you’re probably tasting the residue of old coffee beans in addition to what you intended. Ick. That strange taste can be avoided by just cleaning the machine. It’s really that simple.

And remember, when it comes to blends, espresso “lives” only three minutes.
You’ll see what I mean.

Difference between Lelit PL51 and PL041

Lelit PL041, Lelit PL51

When I launched my online business last year, I felt that it was very important
to have a “Frequently Asked Questions” section . Seems like a no brainer, unless one considers that I hadn’t come across customers yet who would supply me with with questions.
What I did with the section, was anticipate customer questions. I drew from my own experience with the products. Looking back, I thought I did a good job with the FAQ section, but I think one area I may have overlooked was product differentiation. One question that I received every day was:

” What’s the difference between Lelit PL51 and the PL41 models ?”

With all the options that manufacturers present to customers nowadays, it should be no surprise that I was getting this question. Well, I’m going to answer it now.

There are actually very few differences between the two models.

Lelit PL51 is just the newest model out in the market. It’s widely available in the United States.
Lelit PL41 is an older but extremely popular model. Due to that popularity and the fact that it’s a discontinued model, it’s available at few vendors in the United States.
